Jeff qualified through a tough field of players at the Winmau World Masters for the 2015 BDO World Darts Championship, and entered the preliminary stage, where he beat Mike Day of New Zealand 3-0, hitting three 100+ checkouts and having an attempt at a 9 darter. He then played two-time semi-finalist Wesley Harms in the last 32, winning 3–1 . Smith then beat Gary Robson 4-3 in the last 16, after Robson had recovered from 3-1 down to level the match. In the quarter-finals, Smith caused yet another upset as he beat bookmakers' favorite Robbie Green 5-1, crucially hitting a 160 checkout to win the fourth set, with Green scratching his head waiting on 56. Smith was the only overseas player in the last eight of the men's draw and his dreams of emulating fellow Canadian John Part, who won the title on his Lakeside debut in 1994 were not far within his reach,He told BT Sport: "I had a goal when I came here and that was to reach the semi-finals. I've accomplished my goal now and I've got nothing to lose." "The Silencer", as he is known, has beaten two seeds on his way to the last eight, becoming the first man from Canada to reach that stage of the competition since John Part won the first of his three world titles in 1994.
"You've got to give John credit for what he's done over the years. The guy's done all there is to do and, with any luck, I'll follow in his footsteps."
Smith was then beaten 6-0 by fourth seed and eventual champion Scott Mitchell in the semi finals.
2015 BDO World Championships
9 darter attempt
Jeff Smith returns to Manchester after the BDO World Darts offers a Wildcard entry for Jeff to play at Events City in Manchester.
The BDO World Trophy is another major .. run by the British Darts Organisation, which was hosted between 26 February - 1 March 2015 at Event City, Manchester.
After his good run at the World championships Jeff did not dissapoint as he went on to beat Ross Montgomery 6-4 in the last 32,he then beat Sam Hewson 7-3 in the last 16 taking out several 100+ finishes, met Wayne Warren in the quarter finals beating him 8-7 then he played Jeffrey De graaf in the semi finals losing 9-7. What a fantastic run!
2015 BDO World Trophy
Jeff is back at the 2016 BDO Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships in Frimley Green.
He beat Matthew Medhurst from the Netherlands in the pre-lim round 3-0 with a 130 checkout before moving onto the first round within the last 32 to play #2 seed "Wolfie" Martin Adams". Adams scoring was excellent for the most part and he threw a 10 dart leg at the start of the second set but Jeff reeled off five successive legs to clinch victory ,the last of them typifying the composure that has become his trademark since Lakeside's debut a year ago, when he reached the semi-finals.
Adams needed a break a throw to keep the match alive and left himself on double top after 12 darts. Up stepped Smith to land a nerveless 120 checkout and secure his place in the second round whitewashing Adams 3-0.
Martin Adams: "Jeff could go on and win it. If he carries on playing like that, he's going to be in the mix at the end. From what I've seen, he's played the best darts on that stage so far."
2016 BDO World Championships
Jeff moved into the quarter finals beating England's Dennis Harbour 5-2
Jeff Smith came through an epic encounter with Richard Veenstra that almost delivered the perfect conclusion. After a back-and-forth contest that saw both men hold the advantage at some stage in the match, Smith made his move for the finish line at 2-2 in the 11th set, after the previous 10 had been shared. Smith nicked the fifth leg, but the drama continued in the next as Smith hit seven perfect darts before missing the eighth that would have set up a dramatic nine-darter. Nevertheless, he completed the leg in 10 darts to reach his first World Championship final with 6-5 over Veenstra.
9 darter attempt to reach the final
Shanghai for the win...
Jeff continued to impress as he beat Brian Dawson 4-1 in the last 16
amazing 161 checkout!
Jeff made it to the final to play against Scott Waites. Jeff lost 7-1 but it was a nail biter with jeff very close in legs.. taking out an amazing 161 checkout.. .What a fantastic run it has been for Jeff throughout the tournament. We can all attest to how proud we are of his accomplishments!
pure gent.. the fans were not let down Smith.. Fantastic display of darts this week!
2016 Singha Beer Grand Slam of Darts
The Grand Slam of Darts is a darts tournament organised by the Professional Darts Corporation and is known as the bwin Grand Slam of Darts for sponsorship purposes. The PDC also invites the best performing players from its rival, the British Darts Organisation. There have been two previous head-to-head matches between the champions of the two organisation and a few overseas tournaments have also featured BDO v PDC clashes, but this tournament is the first of its kind to be held in the United Kingdom.
brilliant 170 checkout!
The Grand Slam of Darts is unique for the cross-code format which sees stars of the PDC and BDO face off across nine days
The 24 PDC representatives include major tournament finalists from the past 12 months and eight PDC Qualifiers, with a further eight players coming from the BDO system.
Canada's Jeff Smith was set to take on Simon Whitlock in the first round ...he followed up a 170 checkout in the opening leg of his key clash against Whitlock by finishing 82 on the bull to win the deciding leg for a 5-4 triumph.
Smith moved through to a date with six-time Grand Slam winner Phil Taylor .he said: "It was do or die for both me and Simon tonight and it was desperation darts all the way through, but I'm ecstatic to win.
"My game revolves around the doubles, and if they're going in then I'm going to be competitive. Phil's my darting hero .. I can't wait.. I'm excited to play him.
"It's going to be awesome for me but against Phil you're going to have to have the complete package; it's not just about the doubles ...you have to hit a lot of triples and I'll prepare like I have been and hope for the best."
Jeff "The Silencer" Smith takes on 16 time World Champion Phil "The Power' Taylor
Jeff takes on his darting hero Phil "The Power" Taylor.
The Power took out a 32 to win the first leg against Smith. Taylor was up 3-2 at the interval after he hit a double-five.
Taylor may not have been in front had Smith not let several opportunities slip by. He couldn't break throw in the fifth leg but was still scoring well, level with Taylor over the first 9 dart ave for the opening 5 legs.
Smith couldn't earn a break, but Taylor soon did to move 5-2 in front. .Struggles landing doubles were dooming Smith's chances.. this match could have gone in a totally different direction seeing Smith ahead.
Taylor had taken another leg before Smith stopped the rot ahead of the second interval, courtesy of a brilliant 152 checkout.
It proved to be just a temporary reprieve. Smith missed another chance to break, but he held throw to make it 8-4.
A double-16 soon put Taylor on the brink of victory. Smith made him wait until he was back on throw, but Taylor ultimately sealed his 10-5 win with a double-10.
Fantastic darts Jeff Smith!
2016 BDO World Darts Trophy
Jeff was invited into the 2016 BDO World Darts Trophy as a wild card.. he gladly took on the opportunity and stepped onto the oche to play England's Mark "The Gladiator" Mcgeeny
Impressive scoring had by Smith as he opened the first leg with 100,100,131 to leave 170..unfortunately his last dart seemed to slip and gave him a loose last shot leaving 84 as Mcgeeny managed to take out the first leg after starting the match with what they call a commentators curse with an opening of 24.
They both seemed to struggle in the 2nd leg with their doubles but Jeff took the initiative and took out the second leg.
Jeff opened the 3rd leg with a ton and 131.. would have left 170 at the end of this leg had it not been for his 3rd dart hitting into his dart flight of his second dart and falling to the floor. .
comms said" It's kind of a typical Jeff Smith isn't it. he'll sit there nice and solid and if you do give him a chance or make a mistake he'll be all on ya.he does have quite a big scoring game when he's on it."
Every leg seemed to go well for smith seeing the 4th leg started with a 134.. missing his double in the end and Mcgeeny taking it out.
Jeff takes the 6th leg and tried to stay alive in the 7th leg but missing double 18 to stay in the match.. McGeeny takes it out and wins with 6-2 over Jeff. Fantastic darts to both players today well done!
Comms: busy sort of player isn't he smith... doesn't hang around really.. dussles his way through his matches.. plays the game with a nice tempo.. throws his darts and gets out of the way.. just how you like seeing the game played.
Mark McGeeney & Jeff Smith tell us about the great match their shared on stage at the BDO World Trophy
2017 BDO World Championships
‘The Silencer’ Jeff Smith has returned to the tournament this year virtue of reaching the final the year before, and he had the tough task of Seigo Asada in the preliminary round .. Jeff has proven, however, over the last couple of years that he is a very capable player and can do a lot of damage in the big BDO tournaments.
Jeff told me that he is confident he has a good chance ahead of the World Championship, “I’ve got a great chance, likely as good as anyone. I’ve taken to this tournament, and hope to carry on from the last two years.”
Jeff defeated Seigo Asada of Japan with a victory of 3-1 with a bull finish to win the game.
Jeff then moved onto the first round overtaking The 12th seed, Brian Dawson... the Canadian finished with five successive legs winning the game 3-2.
Jeff will have a rematch with "Wolfie" Martin Adams who he defeated in the first round of last year’s event whitewashing him 3-0 in the first round and the n going all the way to the final.
He faces arguably one of the most popular men in the tournament in three-times world champion Adams,
Smith said: "Any time you play Wolfie at Lakeside, the only table which is supporting you is your own. The whole building is going to be in favor of him and rightly so, he deserves it. But he will have his hands full and so will I.
3 time World Champion Adams took a victory hitting double 1 for the win over Jeff 4-1
Adams said “It wasn't a case of me trying to get revenge , but I didnt want a repeat of last year .
2017 BDO World Darts Trophy
What a fantastic first days action we’ve had in the BDO World Trophy from The Memo Arts Centre in Barry, South Wales. Canada’s Jeff Smith was among three players to come through the BDO World Trophy Qualifiers at Pontins Prestatyn earlier in the month.
The 2016 BDO World Championship runner-up won three deciders on his way to qualifying for the event, beating both Lee Shewan and Lee Richards 4-3 in the earlier rounds, before edging past Rhys Hayden 5-4 in the final round.
Jeff was set to play #3 seed Jamie Hughes from Tipton England but in the hype of all the excitement Jamie Hughes forgot his darts in the players bar .. watch it unfold below as both players get a little chuckle ...
Number 3 seed Jamie Hughes had no answer to the consistency of Canada’s Jeff Smith and succumbed to a 6-2 loss
Another fascinating and intriguing day of darts unfolded at the Memo Arts Centre, Barry, as the BDO World Trophy Second Round was completed .Nick Kenny, who couldn’t believe it himself that he took out his opponent, Canada’s Jeff Smith with 6-0 .Nick was on top of his game and stayed strong while smith playing well himself missed a few key opportunities to change the game.
